JJ Mazza is a young Downbeat award winning drummer in the Denver area. A junior at Denver School of the Arts, JJ has already put together an impressive resume, including: Denver School of the Arts Jazz Workshop Orchestra, Colorado All-State Jazz Band, Essentially Ellington High School Jazz Competition and Festival, UNC Jazz Festival, Blues Foundation International Blues Challenge, ASTA National Orchestra Festival, Five Points Jazz Festival, and more. 

JJ’s love of drumming began at an early age, being gifted his first toy drum set at age 2. Since then he has spent every day playing drums. JJ can be seen all around Colorado, performing with various jazz combos and honor bands that he takes part in.

JJ is grateful for the many musicians who have influenced him and made an impact on his musical development. His influences include Elvin Jones, Tony Williams, Sonny Greer, Louis Cole, and Mark Guiliana. Because of the way these musicians have changed him, JJ teaches drum lessons to kids who share his passion. JJ is inspired by his many teachers he has including Alejandro Castaño, Dave Hammond, Greg Tanner Harris, Jon Powers and more.
